This page explains exactly how the egg rates on this site are calculated and published. We believe traders, retailers, and everyday visitors deserve to know not just what a number is, but where it came from, how it was converted, and what it does and does not represent.
Our Data Source
Where The Data Comes From
All egg rates published on this site originate from the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), India’s official body for wholesale egg price guidance. NECC publishes a daily rate sheet every morning at e2necc.com, in a monthly table format showing rates for cities across the country.
We do not set, adjust, or estimate the base wholesale rate. The number we publish for each city is exactly what NECC published that morning, converted from a per-100-eggs figure to a per-egg figure by dividing by 100.
What NECC Rates Mean
What The NECC Rate Actually Is
NECC rates are suggestive wholesale prices. They are reference points published for the trade and industry, not mandatory market prices that every seller is required to follow.
NECC organizes its rates into two types of zones. Production Centres (PC) are locations where eggs are produced, such as Barwala and Namakkal. Consumption Centres (CC) are locations where eggs are mainly consumed, such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. PC rates are typically lower than CC rates, because CC rates include the cost of transporting eggs from production areas to these consumption markets.
Rates Calculation
How We Calculate Tray, 100-Piece, and Peti Prices
NECC publishes rates per 100 eggs. We divide this figure by 100 to get the per-egg rate. Every other price shown on our site is then calculated from this single per-egg figure.
These calculations happen automatically each morning when that day’s NECC data is fetched. The three items below are not simple multiplications like the ones above, so we explain each separately.
Highest, lowest, and average. Each day’s confirmed per-egg rate for a city is stored as a dated record. The highest and lowest figures shown on a city page are simply the highest and lowest values among that month’s stored daily records. The average is the sum of all recorded daily rates for the month divided by the number of days a rate was actually recorded. Days where a rate was carried forward, as explained below, still use the carried forward value in this calculation, since no separate NECC figure was published for that date.
Trend chart. The trend chart plots each day’s stored per-egg rate for a city in date order, so the line reflects the actual sequence of confirmed rates over the selected period rather than a smoothed or projected estimate. It does not add, remove, or adjust any values, it simply visualizes the same daily records used in the highest, lowest, and average calculation.
Last month table. The last month table lists each date in the previous calendar month alongside that day’s per-egg, tray, 100-egg, and peti prices, calculated using the formulas above from that day’s confirmed or carried forward NECC rate. This gives a full day by day record rather than just a single monthly summary figure.
Rate estimates
Retail and Supermarket Rate Estimates
NECC only publishes one wholesale rate per city per day. The retail and supermarket rates shown on our site are estimates, calculated from the NECC wholesale rate using standard mark-up assumptions commonly seen in the trade, approximately 10 to 12 percent above wholesale for retail, and a similar range for supermarket pricing.
These are reference estimates only. They are clearly presented as estimates on the page and should not be treated as official published rates. Actual retail prices vary by location, individual trader, and local market conditions on any given day.
Carried Forward
When A Rate Is Carried Forward
NECC does not always publish a rate for every city every day. Some cities may be missing from a given day’s rate sheet. When this happens, we display the most recently available rate for that city, with a visible notice indicating the rate has been carried forward from a previous date.
Visitors should not treat a carried forward rate as today’s officially published NECC rate for that city.
Update Schedule
When We Update
Our system fetches the NECC daily rate sheet automatically every morning and updates all city pages accordingly. Rates are typically published on the site by 7:30 AM IST each day.
The update timestamp shown on each city page reflects the date of the most recently confirmed NECC data for that city, which will not necessarily be today’s date if NECC has not yet published a new rate.
